THE ENGLAND schools take a three-year-old, unbeaten record against home countries opposition and France into tonight's match against Ireland in Hull (6.0).
The last time England had to endure defeat in the annual series was against Ireland in Belfast in 1993. Ireland, who do not play France at schools level, won the Triple Crown that year. And Ireland is the only country who can achieve that distinction this season.
It is important that Ireland match England in the line out and also in the scrum, areas where England often enjoy considerable superiority over opponents. If the Irish boys manage that, then the speed and agility of the pack, notably a great back row of Tim Cahill, Leo Cullen and Barry Gibney, could give Ireland invaluable possession in the loose and rucks. There is certainly enough attacking talent and pace in the Irish back division to make possession pay.
