TOM RYAN and his fellow Limerick hurling selectors have named their panel for the build-up to March's National Hurling League. Last year's All-Ireland finalists will start training next week under new trainer Brian Ryan and today play Cork in a challenge at Pairc Ui Rinn. The most notable absentee, former All Star Damien Quigley, had earlier this week explained that he is to concentrate on his accountancy studies this year.
Last year's reserve goalkeeper John O'Brien, who starred for UCC in their Fitzgibbon Cup win, will be abroad for the first half of the year and is replaced by Albert Shanahan of the South Liberties club. Claughaun's Mike Galligan, whose omission from Limerick's All-Ireland final list of six substitutes generated a deal of controversy, is also named on the panel.
Meanwhile, Sligo football manager and former Derry coach Mickey Moran has been summoned before next Monday's disciplinary meeting in Tyrone which will consider the scenes which led to the abandonment of last month's Division One final. Moran, who was involved in coaching Carrickmore, joins more than 15 players from the club and Errigal Ciaran who have been called to give evidence.
Still in Sligo, a county board inquiry has found that no member of an interview board canvassed on behalf of any of the candidates for the position of the county's under-21 football team manager.
The inquiry was set up following allegations that a member of the interview panel canvassed for one of the candidates. The inquiry was carried out at the request of Coolera Strandhill clubman Tom Gilligan, who was a member of the five-man interview board.
