IRELAND will be New Zealand’s first opponents since Richie McCaw’s men have been crowned world champions when the All Blacks return to the scene of their taut triumph over France, Eden Park, on Saturday, June 9th, writes Gerry Thornley.

The dates and venues for Ireland’s three-match Steinlager Series in New Zealand next summer have been confirmed, with the second Test a week later at the redeveloped Rugby League Park in Christchurch – the first Test in the city since the Canterbury earthquakes.

The third Test will take place in Hamilton’s Waikato Stadium on Saturday, June 23rd.

Confirming the dates and venues, NZRU CEO Steve Tew said: “Ireland really set the Rugby World Cup on fire and it will be great to have them back in New Zealand next year. It is particularly special that they will play in Christchurch at the redeveloped Rugby League Park – the first Test match in Christchurch since the Canterbury earthquakes.”
