French international striker Nicolas Anelka will miss tonight's first-leg match at Rangers because of a foot injury, Paris Saint-Germain revealed yesterday.
PSG officials revealed the former Arsenal and Real Madrid forward was being rested having picked up the injury to his left foot in Saturday's home draw with Guingamp.
Anelka has had a miserable season with PSG stuck in mid-table in the French league and he also had a training ground row with coach Luis Fernandez.
He has scored just twice in 14 league games to date.
Rangers boss Dick Advocaat believes that his defence holds the key to progress. "PSG have players who can score goals. . . So we have to be very careful at the back but we can score goals as well. In short, we must be well organised and try to find goals.
"They invested heavily in mostly Brazilian players last summer. . . So they have a quality side after the way they spent that money. They are an excellent team - like Rangers.
"Not only are we scoring goals, at the back we are looking very steady. That is all to do with playing the last eight games with the same team. Everybody knows each other much better."
Rangers will be without striker Shota Arveladze, who is cup-tied, for the game with Ronald de Boer set to return.
