Lucky to be alive Potter's Bay bounced back to winning ways with victory in the Studd Challenge Cup Handicap Chase under Adrian Maguire at Cheltenham yesterday. "This horse broke his back when falling at the last fence at Ascot last February and lay there for half an hour so we were on tenterhooks about running him here today," said winning trainer David Nicholson.
"It's been a case of tender loving care that has got him back here today and I said to Adrian before he went out to pull him up if he was not happy with him," he added.
Potters Bay went to the front approaching two out but then had to dig deep to hold off Glamanglitz who made a mistake at the last fence, by a length and a quarter.
"That was A1," beamed Nicholson. "The ideal preparation for the Murphy's Gold Cup here next month and that's where he will go."
Bargain buy Lady Rebecca made it four wins on the trot and her first over timber when easily accounting for Lombardic, despite finding trouble in running and making a few mistakes, by a cheeky neck in the Rosehill Novices Hurdle.
