A year after losing to Duffy Waldorf in a play-off at the Buick Classic, Dennis Paulson captured his first career PGA Tour title by beating David Duval on the fourth sudden death hole on Sunday.

Paulson was safely in the clubhouse with a 68 for a seven-under total 276 when lightning sent David Duval scurrying for cover with one hole to go.

The world number two returned 47 minutes later needing a four at the reachable par-five to avoid a play-off and end a 14-month title drought. But he missed his birdie attempt from 15 feet for a final round 69 that left him tied with Paulson.

Sergio Garcia led by three shots after 10 holes but faltered coming in and ended up with a 69 that left him third at 277, a stroke ahead of Australia's Greg Norman (67). Garcia had vaulted into contention with a sparkling 65 on Saturday.
