Michael McDermott from Stackstown and Patrick Devine from The Island continue to make the competition for the Philip Walton Scratch Trophy a two-horse race. For the third year in succession the pair battled it out, with victory going to McDermott by one shot.
After both players had recorded 78s in the first round McDermott edged out Devine, last year's winner, with a 73 to a 74 in the afternoon. Eoin Arthurs of Forrest Little finished third and the nett prize went Eddie Sheridan. Meanwhile, the scramble at The Island on Saturday turned into a Rogers family affair when Bernard Rogers with his son John and nephews Stephen and Glen shot 16 birdies to be comfortable winners. Bernard Rogers continued the good run when winning the PGA Tankard on Sunday.
Another member from The Island, Walter Skelton, the vice captain of the Commercial Travellers golfing society, holed out his tee shot at the short 10th hole at St Anne's on Friday on his way to finishing second in the competition. He the won his club's past captains' competition on Saturday.
