WOMEN'S SOCCER: THE REPUBLIC of Ireland remain unbeaten in their US training camp as they secured their second victory in a hard-fought, 1-0 win over Chicago Red Stars on Sunday. Áine O'Gorman got the goal just before half-time.

With temperatures nearing 300C, Ireland struggled to get to terms with their illustrious opponents in the opening period. With some of the best footballers in the world from Sweden, Brazil, US, Australia and England playing for the Chicago side, Ireland were always in for a difficult game.

But they defended stoutly and gradually worked their way into the game.

Noel King’s side took the lead in the 38th minute when Diane Caldwell played a sublime through ball through to Stella Maris striker O’Gorman, who controlled it into her path before calmly stroking it past the advancing Swedish international goalkeeper Johanssen.
