Leinster Colleges SF A - Colaiste Eoin 1-9 St Joseph's 0-5AN OPPORTUNIST goal from corner forward Daithi Ó Cathmhaoil, nine minutes into the second half, proved decisive as Coláiste Eoin from Stillorgan defeated St Joseph's in their home pitch at Rochfortbridge yesterday.

The wind-assisted visitors led 0-5 at 0-1 at half-time, mainly due to some fine place-kicking from Alex Ó Maoilmhiaidh. However, they also kicked eight wides in the opening half and their lead looked far from secure at the interval.

The home side failed to score from play in the entire game, but a free from Ian Hyland, which went over via the upright in the 34th minute, left just three points between the sides.

Less than five minutes later, an innocuous-looking shot from long range by Roibeard Blighe was fumbled by St Joseph’s goalkeeper Kymann Power and Ó Cathmhaoil reacted smartly to boot the ball to the unguarded net.

A more cohesive Coláiste Eoin never looked in any real danger from that moment on as, Jamie Gonoud apart, the losers never threatened in attack.

In the dying moments a nasty melee involving players from both sides ended with the referee issuing a straight red to St Joseph’s Joey Boyle.
