North Monastery of Cork created a small bit of history at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght yesterday when capturing both the under-16 A and under-19 A All Ireland Schoolboys League titles for the second successive year. The icing on the cake came in the under-19 A showdown against St Malachy's, Belfast who were hoping to avenge their one point defeat in the All Ireland Cup.
But North Monastery, boasting a string of internationals, proved invincible with top rebounder and eventual MVP John Horgan guarding his basket quite superbly in the 65-61 victory.
Earlier, North Monastery won the Under-16 A title when they beat Colaiste Eanna 45-36.
A tribute to their defence was the MVP award given to point guard Jason Barry.
The opening game of the day saw the girls from Scoil Mhuire, Portarlington triumph over St Joseph's, Lucan in the Senior D contest.
