Norman ready to resume

Norman Williamson will make his comeback from injury on Conchobor for Kim Bailey at Folkestone today

Norman Williamson will make his comeback from injury on Conchobor for Kim Bailey at Folkestone today. He fully expects to be fit to partner Teeton Mill in the Mitsubishi Shogun Ascot Chase on Saturday.

The Corkman has been out of action since last Saturday, when he missed the winning ride on Decoupage in the Tote Gold Trophy after suffering from muscle spasms in his neck.

Among Teeton Mill's opponents on Saturday will be Direct Route, whom Howard Johnson confirmed as a definite runner yesterday. The gelding will be ridden by Richard Dunwoody.

With Norman Williamson set to ride Teeton Mill, Johnson originally warned that his Tingle Creek Chase winner would not run at Ascot unless he could secure the services of Tony McCoy or Paul Carberry.

"I wanted Carberry to ride but he has to ride for Noel Meade on Saturday, but if Richard wants, he can have a sit on the horse at Sandown tomorrow or later in the week," said Johnson.

However, Johnson warned that the Queen Mother Champion Chase, for which he is the 9 to 2 second favourite with William Hill, is Direct Route's chief objective. "He will be doing his best but he will not be given a hard race with Cheltenham in mind," he added.
