Tyrone will field the team which took Cork apart in a one-sided semi-final last month as they attempt to retain their All-Ireland under-21 football title against Mayo in Sligo on Saturday.

Minor skipper Peter Donnelly is battling against a shoulder injury in his quest to win All-Ireland medals on successive weekends, but he should team up at midfield with Cormac McAnallen, who jets off to Australia to link up with the Ireland International Rules squad hours after this weekend's final.

"Peter has been troubled by a slight shoulder injury, but I don't think it's enough to keep him out of an All-Ireland final," said joint-manager Mickey Harte yesterday.

Defender Conor Gormley has a pressing weekend schedule as his club Carrickmore have failed in their bid to have Sunday's Ulster Club Championship clash with Down champions Mayobridge postponed.

Gormley is one of seven Tyrone senior panellists in the Under-21 side. Michael McGee plays at left corner back back, with McAnallen in midfield, while a potent forward division is fired by Stephen O'Neill, Brian McGuigan, Kevin Hughes and Eoin Mulligan.

Wexford hurling manager Tony Dempsey has dropped the broadest hint yet that he is prepared to commit himself to a second term at the helm.

Dempsey has said he will meet with fellow selectors Ger Cushe and Davy Morris this week. It is known that Cushe and Morris are anxious to build on this year's All-Ireland semi-final loss to Tipperary, with Dempsey also believed to be anxious to regroup and plan an assault on next year's league and championship.

"It's a huge, huge job, and I've been through a lot in the last year," he said. "But there's a certain romance about Wexford hurling and the crowds flock to see us. I believe it's only fair to everyone that a decision is arrived at."

The executive committee of the Fermanagh County Board last night appointed Dominic Corrigan as county senior football team manager on a three-year contract, subject to an annual review. Corrigan succeeds John Maughan who resigned after Fermanagh's championship defeat to Donegal.
