Cork City v FC Haka: IN-FORM Cork City striker Dave Mooney ventures into the unknown tonight in more ways than one as his side take on Finnish outfit FC Haka.
It marks his debut in Europe against a side he admits to knowing very little about. And he must embark on this new phase in his career without his strike partner John O'Flynn who has been pivotal in guiding him to the lofty figure of 18 goals in all competitions since his move south from Longford Town in January.
O'Flynn will see a specialist tomorrow morning for what is a suspected fractured ankle after being stretchered off in the league win over Finn Harps on Friday night and faces at least eight weeks out of action.
"It's very sad to see John walking around on crutches," said Mooney.
"He has worked so hard to get himself fit. We get on great off the pitch and on it, we've just hit it off. The way it has been, if he doesn't score I score. And his movement gives me the opportunity to drop in.
"But I think Denis (Behan) coming in will be good. He's a different player to John, he has a bigger presence and he'll ruffle people up a bit more."
O'Flynn is the only Cork setback while Haka have travelled without veteran Russian midfielder Valeri Popovitch, whose knee injury combined with a fear of flying has ruled him out. Fringe player Sebastian Strandvall is the only other absentee for the Finns.
