THE GAA’s Central Hearing Committee (CHC) have confirmed the disqualification of Nenagh Vocational School from the All-Ireland Vocational School senior hurling championship following an incident in last month’s semi-final against St Fergal’s Rathdowney.
The two schools were contesting a refixed semi-final on March 24th (the first game abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch) when a Rathdowney player Shane Cleere was badly injured, and removed to hospital by ambulance – again forcing the game to be abandoned.
Nenagh were comfortably in front at the time, 3-9 to 0-6, but in the aftermath of the incident the Post-Primary schools announced an immediate investigation.
The CCC of the Post-Primary schools body then charged Nenagh with “misconduct which is considered to have discredited the Association” but Nenagh appealed to the CHC, only to be informed yesterday that the CHC decided “the charge was proven” and imposed the penalty of disqualification from the 2012 All- Ireland Vocational Schools Senior Hurling A Championship.
Holders St Brigid’s of Loughrea are through to the final but there is no confirmation yet if or when that game will go ahead.
