Colaiste Na Sceilge made history at the Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney, yesterday when, in their first year of involvement in Munster Colleges having changed from the Vocational sector, they captured the Corn Ui Mhuiri title in sensational style after putting favourites Killorglin to the sword.

It was a power-packed performance from the south Kerry side who did not have a weak link and, with their midfield pairing of Adrian Breen and David Fenton dominant throughout, their quick-silver forward line overpowered Killorglin's defence. This was sweet revenge for Colaiste Na Sceilge, who had been beaten by the same opponents in the Kerry Colleges final recently. Killorglin started in whirlwind fashion and thanks to a goal from Donal Kelleher and a point from Donnacha Walsh, led 1-1 to 0-0 after three minutes. However, once the south Kerry side settled they assumed complete control and points from Sean Courtney, David Fenton, Ger O'Shea and Courtney again levelled matters at the end of the first quarter. Sean Fogarty put them in front and with Declan O'Sullivan, Wayne O'Sullivan and the outstanding Courtney adding points, Colaiste Na Sceilge led 0-8 to 1-3 at halftime.

Killorglin grabbed an early second-half point from Ross Sheehan and a goal from Fergal Griffin which put them 2-4 to 08 in front and order seemed to have been restored.

However, Colaiste na Sceilge were not to be denied and within a minute Sean Courtney had scored a superb goal at the other end to put his side back in front and they never subsequently lost the lead.

There was a dramatic ending to the Munster Vocational Schools' senior football final between Causeway CS and Beara CS at Killarney yesterday when Causeway came from four points behind deep in injury time to snatch a sensational one-point victory, 2-9 to 1-11.

However, the game was marred in those tense final minutes when a fracas broke out and not alone were players fighting but individuals from both sides of the divide got involved. Fortunately, order was restored and the game was finished.
