MULLINGAR qualified for the final of the Smithwicks Provincial Towns Cup with a decisive 12-3 win over Enniscorthy in North Kildare yesterday. The final scoreline hardly reflected Mullingar's dominance. For the entire second half they pinned Enniscorthy in their own half, and an injury time try from Mullingar's outhalf Liam Plunkett, which he converted himself, sealed a deserved victory.
Mullingar took a deserved 50 lead thanks to a 16th minute Kenny Lyons try, but Enniscorthy fullback Rory Deane reduced the deficit six minutes later. Mullingar totally dominated the rest of the game and the outcome would have been beyond doubt had Plunkett been in better kicking form.
