THE MCC yesterday unveiled their latest development at Lord's - a £3.5 million media centre that hovers menacingly over cricket's most hallowed turf like the alien spacecraft in Independence Day.
The membership will be asked shortly to approve the Nursery Lane End structure, which will have space for 250 journalists and broadcasters with work due to begin this winter. The new stand will be ready for use in 1998 and has been planned with the 1998 World Cup media scrum very much in mind.
Though there are unlikely to be the same arguments over obstructed views as there were when the New Mound Stand was built in the 1980s, listeners to Test Match Special may be disturbed to learn that the team will no longer be able to see the number 13 bus route.
