Ireland have put themselves into a strong position to win the Johnny Walker PGA of Europe Team Championship for a first time after yesterday's second round in Marbella. The Irish posted an aggregate of 137 to storm five shots clear of first round leaders Scotland, who are aiming to win the tournament for the third consecutive year.

Once again it was Damian McGrane who led the charge with a best of the tournament four-under-par 68. The young Wexford professional reached the turn in level figures and then made four birdies on the back nine without conceding a stroke to par. Still he wasn't completely satisfied.

"My putting was terrible and I had to get in real close to make my birdies. I should have been seven under par," he said.
