RACING: IRISH TRAINER Eddie Lynam is hoping the rain stays away from Haydock this weekend to allow him run his Group One sprinter Sole Power in the Betfred Sprint Cup on Saturday.

Sole Power won the Temple Stakes on his last trip to Haydock earlier in the season and returned to action with a second to Amour Propre in last weekend’s Flying Five at the Curragh.

“He’s in very good form and as long as the ground is right, he’s an intended runner,” Lynam said yesterday. “The ground is ideal at the moment, just on the fast side of good. This race often ends up being a soft-ground sprint so that would be a worry. But fingers crossed the rain stays away.”

Sole Power is a 20 to 1 shot, along with the other Irish hope Bewitched. Lynam hopes the race will unfold to suit his horse.

“He is a much better horse in a race where they go off a bit too quick up front and he can come through later and pick them up . . . We’re stepping up to six furlongs but I think we can get him to relax and he should be alright.” South Africa Keagan Latham will ride Sole Power again this weekend.
