LONGFORD produced a great second half display to beat Carlow in this highly entertaining All Ireland B SF championship semi final replay at Portarlington.

Rocked by a Carlow goal scored by Ger Kavanagh in the opening minute of the game, Longford gradually settled down and with the advantage of the stiff breeze they battled their way back into contention. A marvellous goal from Brendan Donoghue after 15 minutes gave Eamon Coleman's side the lead for the first time.

However, Carlow had the advantage of a strong wind for the second half and when they brought Eire Og star Colm Hayden on, Longford appeared to be facing an uphill struggle. However, Carlow, with their poor shooting, invited Longford to dig in. Longford established a commanding 1-11 to 1-4 lead and Carlow had just no answer to the slick passing game employed by their opponents. Carlow advance to meet Fermanagh in the B final on November 17th.
