Leinster A followed the province's senior victory with a 48-6 defeat of Connacht at Donnybrook on Saturday. Connacht were lucky to escape with this margin as, when Marcus Dillon ran in a third Leinster try from inside his own half, after just 12 minutes, a Connacht slaughter seemed imminent.
James Blaney added a fourth try before the break to leave it 27-6, Connacht's Eoin Cobbe having converted two penalties. Connacht managed to stem the flow for a while but a final lapse in concentration allowed Leinster to almost walk in three tries in the last 10 minutes of the game, Richard Governey's clincher coming right on the final whistle. Meanwhile Ulster A endured a trying time in more ways than one against a fired up Munster A outfit at Ravenhill on Saturday evening, losing 15-48.
Despite an encouraging start, Ulster had no answer to the pace and power of the visitors, who garnered a steady stream of possession from setpiece play and produced the kind of quality finishing that their more senior brethren might have benefited from earlier in the day.
