AN appeals court in Munich, ruled yesterday that Katrin Krabbe's two year ban for drugs related offences was illegal but turned down her claim for $680,000 in damages.
Krabbe, who completed the 100 metre and 200 metre sprint double at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo, was forced out of athletics four years ago. She failed a drugs test while training in South Africa in January, 1992, but escaped on a technicality.
She opted out of the Barcelona Olympics but tested positive for the banned substance Clenbuterol in a random test seven months later.
The International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) applied a four year ban which the German athletics federation (DLV) reduced to one year only for the IAAF to add a further two years in August 1993 but for a new, charge of unsporting behaviour.
The 26 year old had claimed damages for legal costs and lost earnings. A lower court ruled in May last year that the IAAF's punishment was unlawful be cause it doubled up with the DLV's.
