A goal in the 53rd minute from John Paul King gave Cork a deserved replay at the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick yesterday. It seemed Cork had lost their chance when they trailed 0-5 to 0-4 at the interval. Two minutes into the second half, Melvin Burke added to their problems when he claimed his side's only goal.
Galway looked like they were going to keep their title, but Cork made several positional switches and suddenly everything went their way. Points from Micheal O Laochdha, Fergus Murphy and Diarmuid Duggan edged them that bit closer before Brian O'Donoghue gave Galway more breathing space.
Then King gained possession and after his first shot was superbly saved by Michael Flanagan, he hit the rebound to the net.
Galway upped the tempo again, but the best they could manage was three wides.
