Kearney books place in final for Fermoy

Loreto Fermoy 4-7  St

Loreto Fermoy 4-7  St. Leo's Carlow 2-12A LATE, late goal by Grace Kearney put Loreto Fermoy through to the Post Primary Schoolgirls Senior football A final in Cashel yesterday.

With her side behind by two points, Kearney struck with two minutes to go to break St Leo’s hearts and put Fermoy in sight of their first All-Ireland title at this level.

A converted penalty by Fermoy’s Sinéad Walshe after Katie Hannon was brought down gave the Cork side the ideal start but St Leo’s bounced back with two points from distance. A goal from Kearney and a point by Hannon kept Fermoy in front midway through the first half.

Three quick points by St Leo’s were cancelled out by another Walshe goal. St Leo’s responded with the goal of the game, a long-range strike by Sinéad Ruth, and a point by Sinéad Doogue to leave Fermoy ahead 3-2 to 1-7 at half-time.
