FRANTIC scenes of jubilation took over at Sunbury on Saturday when London Irish beat London Scottish by just one point to join them at second position in division two of the Courage League.

The man they have to thank is Irish winger Michael Corcoran, who scored all seven penalties. With so much interest in this match, which had been postponed from December 30th when bad weather hit all major fixtures in Britain, police ordered the kick-off to be delayed by at least 10 minutes, to allow determined fans to park their vehicles after the official car parks were all full more than an hour before kick-off.

High scoring Corcoran took only five minutes to open the scoring with a brilliant high penalty kick. But six minutes later, Scottish fullback Nick Robinson got to a flying loose ball ten metres out to place it over the line for a try which was converted by stand-off Ian Stent.

Corcoran, having seen the points slipping away throughout the first half, scored with a penalty kick in the 38th minute to bring his side to within three points of their opponents and make the half time score 9-12.

Corcoran levelled with another penalty in the 44th minute, but his moment of glory came in the 78th minute when he put London Irish ahead to clinch victory by 21-20, sending their loyal supporters into rapturous celebration.
