RACING DIGEST:DAVY CONDON was taken to Tullamore Hospital for X-rays on his ankle after suffering a bad fall at Kilbeggan last night.

Condon fell from Jawad in the Gigginstown House Midlands National, won by Piano Star.

Ruby Walsh was stood down earlier on the card after falling from Luca Brasi in the Colm Quinn BMW Handicap Hurdle. Andrew Thornton was also taken to hospital for X-rays on his neck and back after Strolling Home hit the deck in the same race.

Morgan has earmarked the Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood on July 31st for the four-year-old, who won the Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes on her first start for Morgan.

“I am planning to send San Sicharia over for the Oak Tree Stakes,” confirmed Morgan.

“To be honest, I was a little disappointed with her run at Newmarket – we were hoping that she would be placed there – and I thought she wasn’t really killing herself in the race.

“I thought that she was a bit better than that run suggested and I will be applying some cheekpieces to her next time out, just to liven her up a bit.

“She might not be a Group One filly, but I didn’t feel that she quite ran up to her mark in the Falmouth Stakes – and that she might just be keeping a little bit to herself.”

Luca Cumani, who suffered a blow earlier this week when Melbourne Cup hope Bauer was ruled out of a second trip to Australia through injury, may have another candidate on his hands with Basaltico.

Formerly trained in Italy, the five-year-old was running in the care of Herman Brown at the Dubai Carnival but is now under the tutelage of Cumani.

A son of St Leger winner Shantou, connections are hoping he can follow a similar path to Flemington as that of stablemate Purple Moon, who finished second in 2007.

“Bauer has sadly injured a tendon on the gallops and is likely to be out for a year,” the trainer’s daughter, Francesca said.

“That rather dashes our hopes of finally winning the Melbourne Cup this year, although our recent acquisition Basaltico will get the chance to step up to the plate in the Group Three Glorious Stakes (at Goodwood) and put his credentials on the line in a race Purple Moon also took in before his gallant second at Flemington.”

Recharge is set to miss the rest of the season after suffering an injury. Lady O’Reilly’s colt, who was fifth to Fame And Glory in the Irish Derby on his latest start, is expected to be back in action next year.

He has been taken out of all of his engagements, including York’s Juddmonte International and the Celebration Mile at Goodwood.

“He had a slight injury and we decided to take him out of all engagements and give him a break,” said trainer Kevin Prendergast.

“It’s not serious, he’ll be back no problem. We won’t bring him back this season, but we’ll have him again next year.”

Ayr has been cleared to hold its next scheduled meeting on Monday. Racing had to be abandoned last Monday as seven horses were involved in a pile-up, leaving jockey Joe Fanning with a broken collar bone.

There was doubt over the Fair Monday meeting but following a visit from the British Horse Racing Authority Course Inspector, racing will go ahead.
