Saturday's Northwest 200 motorcycle road races were the most exciting in many years with closely fought finishes and many new lap records. The races were run in perfect weather conditions in front of a crowd of 80,000 spectators.

Local rider David Jeffries had three brilliant wins - taking both of the Superbike races and the Regal 600. His victories were his first ever at the nine-mile public road circuit that links Coleraine with the seaside towns of Portrush and Portstewart.

"I've been trying to win here since 1994, and to win three is absolutely brilliant," said Jeffries after the races. Jeffries also exhibited the level of determination it takes to win at this type of racing.
