MOTOR SPORT:  DANIEL BARRY (Enniskerry) and Mark Bowens (Cork) lead the strong Irish challenge in tomorrow's round two of the British Mitsubishi Evo Challenge in the Brick and Steel Border Counties Rally.

Barry and Bowens are second in the championship on 10 points, seeded behind leader David Bogie (Dumfries) on 12 points.

Third seed is Sebastien Ling (Wales) on eight points. Next up are Richard Cathcart (Enniskillen) and Martin Brady (Navan) on six points, Neil McCance (Comber) and Seán Ferris (Drumquin) on five points, Keith Cronin (Bantry) and Greg Shinnors (Limerick) on four points.

The rally is run out of Jedburg with the off-road stages in the famous Yorkshire Kielder Forest complex.

Roscommon rally fans are in for a treat on Sunday as the meteoric multi-Northern Ireland championship winner Kevin Lynch tries out his Subaru WRC over the 120 kilometres of 4x2 stages in the Midland MC's Moto Stages Rally.

Jack Sleator and Sean Gallagher, also in Subaru WRCs, are seeded number two and three, respectively, in this event which has attracted 255 entries, plus 20 juniors and six historics.

JJ Fleming is seeded number four in a Ford Focus WRC, followed by Seán McArdle in a Toyota Corolla WRC, Mark Courtney (Toyota Celica GT4), Group N chargers Paul Kiely, John Kelly and Adrian Quinn in Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9's, George Tracey (FocusWRC) and Damien Finneran (Subaru).

The rally is run out of Roscommon with Rally HQ at the town's Abbey Hotel.

Meanwhile, Co Kildare Motor Club run the second Mondello race meeting of the year on Sunday.
