KEN DOHERTY, Fergal O'Brien and Stephen Murphy were confirmed yesterday as the three man team to represent Ireland at the forthcoming World Cup in Bangkok.

The event, which Ireland won three years in a row between 1985 and 1987, is being revived and expanded by the WPBSA which hopes to use it to promote the game in countries where the professional game is not yet firmly established.

The tournament, which will have a £400,000 prize fund, will take place between October 29th and November 10th with the teams competing in groups of five before going forward to the knockout stages.

The Irish, who are the fourth seeds for the title, have been drawn in the same qualifying group as Northern Ireland, New Zealand, Iceland and Belgium.

Also heading to Thailand for the event, meanwhile, will be Dubliner Geraldine McGillivary who, despite still being in her first season as a professional referee, has been called in to officiate at the championships.
