GAA: NHL DIVISION TWO: Laois 3-16 Clare 3-13AN INSPIRED display by Willie Hyland gave Laois their second win in 84 years over Clare.
Laois were four points in front after five minutes, their goal coming from John Brophy, but the teams were level after 15 minutes when Colm McGrath hit a goal and a point inside two minutes.
Laois hit a purple patch with five unanswered points but Clare finished with a brace, leaving the half-time score at 1-9 to 1-6 in favour of the home side.
Clare’s Daragh Honan scored a goal and when Jonathan Clancy added a second after 55 minutes it looked all over but Laois replied with a goal from Owen Holohan and points from Hyland levelled matters with three minutes remaining. Hyland then latched on to a ball by Joe Fitzpatrick and goaled to wrap up victory.
