Jason O'Connor capped a great week for Limerick when he scored a late winner to beat Home Farm/Everton at Whitehall on Saturday night. It was Limerick's fifth successive win in the league and came on the back of Tuesday night's scintillating performance against Shelbourne in the League Cup quarter-final. Having rode their luck in a firsthalf in which Home Farm created the better chances, Limerick took the game to their faltering hosts in the second-half and were rewarded with the opening goal on 64 minutes when Home Farm goalkeeper, Brian O'Shea, failed to hold a Jason Purcell free-kick and Derek Whyte was on hand to tap in the rebound.
Home Farm, who have yet to convince as promotion contenders, bounced back immediately with an equaliser when Barry Ferguson scored with a header. But O'Connor won it for Limerick five minutes from time when he powered home a header from Barry Ryan's precise cross.
Monaghan United ended their run of four defeats to inflict more misery on bottom of the table Cobh Ramblers with a 1-0 win at St Coleman's Park.
Billed as a match they badly needed to win after last week's humiliating 7-0 defeat at Bray, Cobh succumbed to their fourth loss on the trot as Mick Scully scored a fortuitous winner seven minutes from time. Tommy Cregoe's headed clearance from a corner was driven back at the Cobh goal by Bobby Byrne and Scully's deflection wrong-footed Cobh goalkeeper Nicky Byrne to enter the net.
Galway United's steady rise continued as they persevered to win 2-1 at Longford.
Harry Costello headed Galway in front from Eric Levine's 36th minute corner but Longford thought they had earned a draw when Conor Frawley equalised with a stunning header eight minutes from the end.
Galway, however, struck for a last minute winner when Billy Clery scored from close range.
