Richard Hill is set to have talks within the next 48 hours with Gloucester's multi-millionaire backer Tom Walkinshaw about a possible role in the new-look England rugby coaching team. Hill was due to speak to Walkinshaw after Gloucester's 3513 victory over Bristol on Saturday, but the Arrows Formula One boss had to fly back to Spa for the Belgian Grand Prix.

Gloucester's coaching director Hill said yesterday: "I am hoping to see him either tomorrow or Wednesday, because we didn't have time to speak on Saturday as there was so much going on after the match."

Hill had been approached to take over Jack Rowell's post as England's full-time coach last week but turned it down flatly.

He believes the Rugby Football Union (RFU) will not have the time to put anyone into position for the job by their own Friday deadline.

He said: "I think it is likely to be delayed, because I cannot see them sorting the structure out by then."

Former England centre Clive Woodward has also turned down the full-time role for now until he finishes his job as Bath's backs coach next year. However, he was seen in the company of RFU national playing committee vicechairman Fran Cotton at Sale's match with Saracens on Sunday.

Cotton's national playing committee are looking to put forward a name for Rowell's job by Friday - the day it becomes vacant.
