THREE tries from Ross Wynne helped secure a comfortable first round victory for High School at Kilternan yesterday. However, the contribution of out half Daniel Downey can't be understated and it was fitting that he ran in the final score of the afternoon.
Columba's started well when number eight Niall Denham broke from the back of the scrum, five yards out, to score under the posts. Michael O'Sullivan's conversion made it 7-0, but High School bounced back with back to back tries from Julian Fraser and Wynne (converted by Downey) to lead 12-7 at the break.
A perfectly timed ball from Downey allowed Wynne to waltz in for his second - also converted by Downey - and shortly afterwards the full back completed his hat trick in fine style.
Columba's lost the influential Denham, but still managed late tries from O'Sullivan and Charles Langley. O'Sullivan converted Langley's try.
