JOCKEY Trevor Horgan remains in Beaumont Hospital with doctors declaring his helmet saved his life after his fall from Corket in Wednesday's Heineken Gold Cup at Punchestown.

The Co Cork rider is still severely concussed and will be closely monitored by the hospital's neuro surgical unit in the next few days.

Turf Club medical officer Dr Walter Halley said yesterday: "There's nothing major broken and the consultant working with Trevor said he was bloody lucky. Thankfully there's no spinal injury which is super news but there is a possibility of a hairline skull fracture. Xrays will continue to be taken but there's no doubt the new European standard helmet saved his life."

Horgan is still not fully conscious and has been joined in the hospital by his wife and mother.
