National Matchplay champion, Ann Hall will start a strong favourite for the All-Ireland Women's Strokeplay championship, sponsored by Lynch and Manning Ltd, at Ballinlough next weekend. The Royal Meath player has her sights on a double, after also finishing runner-up in the Leinster Strokeplay. However, Jean Cooney is still chasing the ultimate prize after finishing runner-up last year and at Douglas in 1992. Sheelagh Elmes (Portmarnock), who was National Strokeplay champion over her home course in 1995, will also be among those fancied for the top prize as will Kilbeggan's Rose McCormack, Marina O'Rourke (Clonhogue), Teresa Broderick (Tralee) and Margaret Leech (Seapoint).
