Par was finally broken in the FBD-sponsored Mount Temple senior scratch cup on Sunday. It has taken eight years but in ideal conditions Ollie Grogan from Moate shot a one-under 71 in the opening round and went on to win the trophy for the first time when his second round of 76 gave him a total of 147 - six shots better than local Tom Fox in second place with Ken Buckley, also Mount Temple, third on 154.

Meanwhile, Michael McGinley matched Colin Montgomerie's double eagle to win the Laytown and Bettystown scratch cup. McGinley eagled the 18th in both rounds to pip local Joe Moore by one shot. Rounds of 71 and 68 gave the Grange man a total of 139, with Moore next on 140 (69, 71) and Gary Maybin third on 142 after two rounds of 71. Pat O'Brien used all his local knowledge to win the net with 136, one ahead of Jack McAvinue with Val Smyth third on 140.
