PAUL GRIFFIN returns to the ring this evening in Cardiff where he fights on the undercard of the WBO bantamweight world title contest between defending champion Daniel Jiminez of Puerto Rico and Welsh challenger Robbie Regan.
Griffin, who recently moved from his Crumlin base to train with Brendan Ingle in Sheffield, takes on Carl Allen from Wolverhampton in a bout scheduled to run over six rounds.
Griffin has won his four professional bouts. Another victory would move him towards the top of the ranking list and would help him towards a possible European title fight over the summer months.
On the amateur front, Cork's James Chisholm of the Greenmount club is one of the favourites in the National Junior Championships which get under way at the National Stadium tonight. He will have JP Campbell of South Meath as one of his main challengers at flyweight.
Aodh Carlyle, a younger brother of recent national senior bantam runner-up Terry, is fancied among the featherweights. Roscommon brothers David and Darren Conlon should provide formidable bids at light-welter and welter, respectively, and Tom Sheahan of St Michael's Athy is another prospect bound to make a strong impression.
