BOBBY GOULD, as expected, yesterday escaped punishment for his alleged racist outburst and will carry on as Wales manager.

The FA of Wales management committee met on Tuesday to look into the allegations made by the striker Nathan Blake and yesterday the full council endorsed their view that the matter was now closed.

An FA of Wales statement said: "The council has taken into consideration a letter from Mr Gordon Taylor, chief executive of the PFA, expressing his admiration for Mr Gould's expression of an apology and clear explanation of the events."

Gould's reaction was: "I have been cleared and I am delighted, but I knew in my own mind I had done nothing wrong. As far as I am concerned the matter is now closed. "Nathan Blake said that his international future remained in limbo after accusing the FAW of "hypocrisy" over their handling of the row. "I don't know whether I will change my mind and play for Wales again if selected because I haven't really thought about it."

Gould's future as Wales manager was not discussed at the meetings but will be raised at the council's summer get together It is understood that a small majority of councillors think that, because of his poor record in charged of the national team, his contract should not be renewed when it runs out in December.
