Darren Gough, England's injury-prone fast bowler, will retire from the game unless he can return fit enough to play Test cricket. The county game - with his native Yorkshire - will not be enough to satisfy the 27-yearold, who pulled out of this winter's England tour of the West Indies when his hamstring injury troubles flared up again.
England captain Mike Atherton has refused to rule Gough out of a possible late appearance in the Caribbean this winter should the paceman's hamstring improve.
But, as the England tourists were arriving in Antigua on Saturday night, the heat of the West Indies was a world away for Gough, engaged in a fresh battle against a degenerative condition in his hamstring tendon.
"I'm not one to go round saying `I've done all right for England, but now I'll settle for county cricket if I have to'," Gough said. "I couldn't just play county cricket and I wouldn't think twice about quitting the game."
Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar has hit out at India's selectors for sacking him as Indian captain on poor performance, saying he seldom got the team he needed for success.
"I rarely got the players I wanted," said Tendulkar, who was replaced by Mohammad Azharuddin on Friday after a 17-month stint as the captain.
