Solid opening efforts from Maguire and Meadow in New Jersey

An opening round of three under sees Leona Maguire six shots off the lead in a tie for 22nd at the Founders Cup in New Jersey. Stephanie Meadow finds herself two shots further back after a solid opening effort of 71.

Maguire started on the back nine with mixed fortune on her opening holes, offsetting bogeys at 11 and 13 with an eagle at the 12th. Another shot picked up at the 14th had her on one under in the early stages.

Two further birdies followed on 17 and 18 before a run of nine pars on her back nine kept her at three under at the end of her round.

Bogeys at 1, 14 and 18 took some of the shine off what threatened to be an excellent fround from Meadow. The Northern Irish golfer ended up on 71 after back-to-back birdies on three and four plus two in quick succession on nine and 12.
