Sligo Rovers 1 Galway United 1:Derek Glynn gave Galway United something to cheer about with a deserved late strike in this lacklustre Premier Division game at The Showgrounds on Saturday night. Glynn's 85th-minute equaliser came after an Alan Murphy piledriver was blocked as Galway bombarded the home goal.
"Every point is precious and a draw was a fair result" said Galway manager Tony Cousins. "The Showgrounds is a difficult place to get anything but we showed great character in the second half."
Sligo attacked from the start with Matthew Judge, Adam Hughes and Fahrudin Kudozovic peppering their opponents' goal. Alan Murphy sliced his shot wide of the Rovers goal on 20 minutes and former Sligo player Wesley Charles went close with a header.
Derek O'Brien came close to breaking the deadlock in the 43rd minute when his high dropping ball caught Richard Brush back-peddling but the goalkeeper got back in time to avert the danger.
Sligo substitute Gary Curran sent Kudozovic in along the end line at the start of the second half but a smart save by Gary Rogers cut out the danger.
Judge put Rovers ahead after 58 minutes, firing past Rogers following good approach work by Séamus Coleman, Conor O'Grady and Adam Hughes.
A long-range shot by Galway substitute Shane Tracy whistled past Brush's goal on 68 minutes.
Rogers denied Kudozovic with a brilliant diving save eight minutes from time before Galway counter attacked to unhinge the defence for Glynn to drill a superb shot past Brush.
