TWO goals in four minutes during a blistering second quarter provided Waterford champions Ballygunner with the platform for victory in the Munster club SH semifinal at Thurles yesterday. They deservedly defeated Tipperary champions Boherlahan-Dualla.
The second quarter was decisive in this well-contested encounter. The sides were level at 0-4 each after 14 minutes, but Boherlahan failed to score again until a minute before half-time.
Ballygunner, meanwhile, took full advantage. They had the first of their goals in the 19th minute from David Codd and four minutes later Mick Mahony got their second. On the stroke of halftime, Philip O'Dwyer gave Boherlahan a lifeline with an opportunist goal.
Trailing 1-4 to 2-10 at the break, Boherlahan made a mighty effort in the second half and twice cut the deficit to four points. Each time, however, Ballygunner steadied themselves and they finished the stronger, earning their deserved win.
Balgunner had outstanding displays from Stephen Frampton, Fergal Hartley, Billy O'Sullivan, Mick Mahony, Paul Power, and Tony Carroll.
