The weather may not have been conducive to good golf, but Miriam Gannon has been setting the fairways alight at Castlerea Golf Club over the past 10 weeks. Gannon, a 30-handicapper who has been playing golf for only two years, has reduced her handicap by four shots with a series of wins in Castlerea. Starting in July, she won the women's singles with 38 points and followed that with a win in the Open Mixed Foursomes when she partnered the captain, Tommie Bruen, to a 63.
Forty points gave Gannon another singles victory a week later. She was a runaway winner of the lady captain's (Maura Daly) prize.
Opening with a 64, Gannon led the field by seven shots going into the second round and added a 65 to win by a massive margin of 13 shots. A semi-finalist in the men's/women's matchplay, Gannon also won the Hession Memorial Cup with another great score of 45 points. Now down to a 26-handicap, Gannon is sure to have it reduced further, judging by her current form.
