Roscommon 1-10 Cavan 2-20:CAVAN got off to a flying start at Hyde Park yesterday as Raymond Galligan scored 0-10. Although they trailed by five points after 22 minutes Cavan had drawn level by half-time. Once Galligan gave Cavan the lead in the 46th minute they overwhelmed the home team.

Roscommon led 0-3 to 0-0 after eight minutes with points from Donie Shine and one from John Rogers. Cavan reeled off points from Galligan, Gareth Smith and Mark McKeever between and 14th and 17th minutes. However Shine restored Roscommon’s lead with a goal after 18 minutes and they led by five points after 22 minutes with two points from frees by Shine. Cavan finished the half with points from Galligan (three), Cian Mackey, Gareth Smith and David Givney to a lone reply from Shine.

Shine and David O’Gara swapped points with Givney and John McCutcheon before Galligan edged Cavan in front. One minute later Eoin McGuigan scored a goal. Roscommon midfielder Michael Finneran was sent-off six minutes from the end for a second offence. Cian Mackey sealed the win with a goal in the 68th minute.
