France runs in Secretariat

Aidan O'Brien will run the Irish 2,000 Guineas runner-up France in Saturday's Grade One Secretariat Stakes at Arlington.

The Ballydoyle runner will join Dermot Weld's Evolving Tactics, the winner of the American Derby on the same course last month, in the Irish raiding party.

"Michael (Kinane) will go across to ride him and come back for Leopardstown on Sunday," said O'Brien yesterday.

Kinane and O'Brien have already combined to win the Secretariat three years ago with the Irish Derby third and Prix Lupin winner Ciro.

Humping 12-4 around the two miles of the qualified riders race at Cork this evening would normally be a tough task but the conditions should be ideal for the top weight, Theseus.

The good amateur Derek O'Connor takes 7lbs off, but more importantly, the ground Theseus runs on will be much more suitable than the going he encountered at Galway.

On fast ground at Killarney, O'Connor's mount was a smooth winner from Snob Wells and his Galway effort can be ignored.

Paul Carberry can notch a double, courtesy of the Kilbeggan winner, Fable, and Instan in the opener who ran a reasonable race in a bumper on the course.
