Australia wrapped up a crushing victory over India on the final day of the opening Test match in Adelaide yesterday, as controversy raged over the dismissal of India's captain and master batsman Sachin Tendulkar.

The home country skittled India for a second innings 110 at Adelaide Oval to clinch victory by 385 runs in their fourth Test win of the summer - after overwhelming Pakistan 3-0 - and fifth in a row.

Set the almost impossible task of making 396 to win, India crumbled early on the fifth day, losing their last five wickets for a miserable 34 runs in 53 minutes as pace-man Damien Fleming ran riot, snatching four more wickets to finish with 530.

Tendulkar was out in questionable fashion in both innings. A major controversy raged on Monday after his second innings dismissal, adjudged by umpire Daryl Harper to be leg before wicket when a short ball from speedster Glenn McGrath - which failed to rise - cannoned into the right-hander's left shoulder as he ducked in front of the stumps.

"The whole world has seen it (the dismissal on TV) and I don't think I should be talking much about it," Tendulkar said after the game.

However, Australian captain Steve Waugh, who appealed from his position in the gully, said he believed the ball which resulted in Tendulkar's downfall was not going over the stumps.
