GOLF:ENGLAND'S OLIVER Fisher kept his cool in the final round to win the Czech Open as he signed for a 69 to win by two shots at the Prosper Golf Resort in Celadna.

Fisher, 22, had shared the lead overnight and continued a fine weekend to claim his first ever win on the European Tour by finishing 13 under for the tournament.

Mikael Lundberg of Sweden finished second after remaining in contention throughout by matching Fisher’s 69.

Consecutive birdies at the seventh, eighth and ninth put Fisher in a good position going into the back nine where three more birdies and three bogeys proved to be enough to secure his maiden title.

“I can’t really explain what it means. After the year that I’ve had it’s a relief in that sense,” said Fisher.

“It feels fantastic. I’ve put a lot of hard work in and to come out, my fifth season on Tour, to finally have won it feels like now I’m there. I’ve proven to myself I can win.

“It just shows what the game of golf can do – how bad it can be and how great it can be.”

Paraguayan Fabrizio Zanotti carded a final-round 66 to move into a clear third place while Fisher’s compatriot Gary Boyd finished fourth, five shots off the top.

Steven O’Hara, who had shared the lead with Fisher overnight, struggled on his final round and the Scotsman ended up signing for a three-over-par 75 leaving him tied for fifth with compatriot David Drysdale, England’s Steve Webster and Lorenzo Gagli of Italy.

Dubliner Damien McGrane secured a top-ten finish and proved best of the Irish contingent with a closing level par 72 for a six under tally of 282.

Paul McGinley however undid some of his earlier good work in the Czech Republic as he rounded off his weekend efforts with a disappointing 75 for 286.

Simon Thornton concluded with a 71 and was well down the field, a full 16 shots adrift of the winner.
