Leading Russian distance runner Olga Yegorova has tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug erythropoietin (EPO) at this month's Paris Golden League meeting, the French athletics federation said yesterday.
It is the first positive case of EPO at an athletics meet. Yegorova (29), who won the 3,000 metres world indoor title in Lisbon in March, faces suspension if her B-sample is also positive.
Yegorova set the best time of the year when she clocked a winning time of 8:23.75 in the 3,000 metres at the Paris meeting on July 6th. She has been named in the Russian squad for the world championships next month and a senior Russian official said Yegorova still intended to race.
