A GOALKEEPING error from England international goalkeeper David James helped Ipswich Town to a victory which continued their fine start to the season.

Roy Keane saw his side hit the woodwork three times on Saturday in a goalless first half but when James made a mess of collecting a high ball, Tamas Priskin put the hosts ahead.

Jason Scotland scored the second on his full debut for the club to leave Keith Millen’s side pointless at Portman Road.

Keane admitted his side were not at their best. He said: “It wasn’t comfortable. It’s never comfortable, not at 1-0 or even 2-0. But we took our chances without being particularly great.

“The first half was a bit flat but at half-time we were still quite relaxed. We changed things round, as any good team should be able to do, and it worked.

“Credit to the players for that. I’m very, very pleased with them and they’re ready for a break.

“It’s been a good start to the season.”

Town are now joint top of the table with QPR and Cardiff City. The London side lead on goal difference despite drawing 2-2 at Derby County on Saturday.

Cardiff moved level on points with QPR thanks to a 2-0 win at Portsmouth courtesy of a Hayden Mullins’s own goal and Jay Bothroyd’s sixth strike of the season.

Leeds United continued their fine start to the season with a 1-0 win at Watford thanks to Lee Naylor’s goal.
