The Lansdowne clubhouse and particularly the bar staff would have been a little surprised at the demand for drink prior to Saturday's game against Galwegians. Augmenting those attending the prematch dinner were about 400 Englishman who had travelled to Dublin despite the fact that the Ireland-England Six Nations Championship game was postponed. Looking for a little action they were directed to Lansdowne Road but quite what they made of the AIL game - it finished 9-7 to Lansdowne - is another thing. Unmoved by the fare produced, a few offered a rendition of Swing Low Sweet Chariot but even they lost heart and, like the majority of their counterparts, repaired to the bar long before the final whistle.
